Running, walking, or jogging along the same indoor course may start to feel like a chore, and you may be ready for new inspiration when it comes to your exercise routine. Moving your exercise routine to an outdoor course or trail may be ideal, but navigating uneven or unknown terrain may mar your experience. Good guidance from a competent physical therapist like Charlie Merrill can give you the strength, balance, and preparation you need to make your outdoor exercise experiences safe, fun, and worthwhile.
Jumping Lunges
You should start your jumping lunges with an even distribution of your weight on both of your legs. Jumping up straight and then landing carefully on your feet will complete the lunge process.
Monster Walk
Wearing resistance bands around your ankles can help you get the most out of your walking. You should bring one leg up to meet the other before taking additional steps. Alternating ten steps forward with ten steps backward will complete your monster walk exercise.
One-Legged Jumping
Start these jumps by standing on your right leg and then move into a partial squat. You should land in another partial squat on your other leg. Repeat several of these diagonal movements as part of your exercise routine.
Tightrope Walk
Wearing ankle resistance bands will enhance this exercise as well. Movements are completed by raising one leg out to the side and then putting it down directly in front of you. These movements should be alternated with thirty steps forward and then thirty steps backwards.
Single-Leg Balance
Start by standing on a genuine BOSU trainer and then lift one leg as you bend your standing leg. Hold this motion for as long as possible. You should stop before you experience muscle fatigue or loss of balance.
